Check yours today!

When you buy yours make sure they have 3 years left on them.

NOTE: Hold onto old flares, don't throw them away. They probably still work, the more you have the better chance of being spotted in an emergency.

Vessel Safety Checks are conducted by the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the U. S. Power Squadron. They are free, and completely confidential. No vessel or operator is reported to any law enforcement authority or insurance company in the event of a failure to pass the examination. Specially trained officers are available at various locations during the boating season to conduct a safety check of your boat and insure that your boat meets the minimum state and federal requirements.  Our Officers will check the  items listed below:

Upon completion of your Vessel Safety Check a decal will be affixed to the window area of your boat which will inform  law enforcement authorities that your boat has met the current safety requirements for the current year.

  • Correct Numbering
  • Boat Registration is current and aboard
  • PFDs (Life Jackets) in GOOD condition, unwrapped, and easily accessible
  • Proper ventilation of fuel and engine compartments
  • Fire Extinguishers, properly charged and mounted..
  • Sound Producing device
  • Navigation lights in working condition
  • Visual Distress Signals (flares) are not expired
  • Backfire Flame Arresters for inboard or IOs
  • All required ecological placards are aboard and posted.

In addition, the Inspecting Officer will provide you with information on the security regulations currently in effect for your area of operations, as well as safety and accident prevention issues you should be aware of.
